Unlock a PDF
Remove a known password, or strip printing/copying/editing restrictions from a PDF that opens freely — privately, in your browser.
How to unlock a PDF
- Add your PDF. Drop it above.
- If it asks for a password to open, type it in. If it only has restrictions (it opens fine but you can't print or copy), leave the password blank.
- Unlock & download. You get a clean copy with no password and no restrictions.
Frequently asked questions
Can you unlock a PDF I don't have the password for?
Only in one specific case: if the PDF opens without a password but blocks printing or copying, those restrictions can be lifted with no password — a common annoyance with statements and forms. If the PDF demands a password just to open, that's genuine encryption and you must supply the correct password. We can't and won't break real encryption.
Is my PDF or password uploaded?
No — everything, including the password you type, stays in your browser. Nothing is transmitted.
Why can't you crack the open password?
Because strong PDF encryption (AES) has no backdoor — that's exactly what makes it trustworthy when you protect your own files. If it could be trivially bypassed online, it would be worthless.
Is unlocking legal?
Removing protection from your own documents, or ones you're authorised to use, is completely normal. Please only unlock files you have the right to.
